OUR APPROACH
Our Logo and the Story of Kintsugi
Our logo is inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi, an approach to repair that honours cracks and imperfections rather than concealing them. In this tradition, what has been broken is not diminished, but carried forward with care and respect. The symbol reflects continuity, dignity, and the unique story each person brings with them.
In the same way, psychiatric care within this practice recognises the whole person, not just their difficulties. The logo represents attentive, thoughtful clinical support through challenging times, grounded in respect for individual experience and the belief that healing can coexist with complexity.
How the Practice Works
This practice provides specialist psychiatric assessment and management for adults whose mental health needs may include medical and biological components requiring expert evaluation.
Psychiatry is a medical discipline: psychiatrists complete medical training and are qualified to diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe and manage medications, and integrate biological, psychological, and social approaches to care.
Psychologists, by contrast, usually hold advanced degrees focused on human behaviour and mental processes and specialise in psychotherapy and behavioural interventions, but in most contexts do not prescribe medication.
The practice begins with a comprehensive psychiatric assessment. This includes a detailed clinical history and exploration of current symptoms.
The practice is aimed at anyone requiring specialist psychiatric assessment and management. Referrals are welcomed from general practitioners, psychologists and other health professionals.
Self-referrals are accepted, and patients with or without medical aid are seen.
Based on the initial assessment, a diagnosis may be made and an individually tailored treatment plan developed. Treatment options include medication management and coordination of care with other healthcare professionals. When appropriate, referrals to psychologists and allied providers are made to support comprehensive care.
All care is grounded in evidence-based psychiatric practice and professional clinical standards.
